Gross motor skills are the foundation for children to build skills upon and is connected with fine motor skills. For example, before handwriting, children must first have adequate core muscle strength to maintain an upright posture in their seat, shoulder stability for purposeful and coordinated movements of the arm, wrist stability, and finally, fine motor coordination for activities such as drawing, cutting, or writing.
