Sensory Sensations

Did you know that you have 8 sensory systems? We’re used to hearing about the 5 senses such as touch, taste, smell, sound, and sight but vestibular (movement), proprioception (sensations from muscles and joints of the body), and interoception (sensations related to the physiological condition of the body) are also part of the sensory system. Sensory Sensations is a page dedicated to using a multi-sensory approach to learning. When children use more than one of the sensory systems to learn activities such as handwriting, they are more likely to retain the information learned. If your child shows signs of hypersensitivity to certain senses, we recommend speaking with an Occupational Therapist.
