Play-Doh and Hidden Erasers

Tools

  1. 10 Mini Erasers (alternative: coins/beads)

  2. Play-Doh

Activity Description

Kids enjoy playing hide-and-seek with their friends. Now, let's try something similar but with Play-Doh! Children will warm-up their hands by squeezing the Play-Doh and then, place 10 small erasers inside the Play-Doh. We will roll the Play-Doh into a ball to hide the erasers and close our eyes! Try to find an eraser by touch only! Can you find all 10?

Steps

  • Step 1: Take out Play-Doh from the container and allow your child to manipulate the Play-Doh in their hands to warm up the muscles.

  • Step 2: Flatten the Play-Doh like a pancake and place the 10 mini erasers inside.

  • Step 3:Roll the Play-Doh into a ball to hide the mini erasers.

  • Step 4: Close your eyes and attempt to find the mini erasers by touch and while counting to keep track of how many you find.

  • Step 5: Count your mini erasers to be sure you have found all 10 of them.

Goals

Play-Doh can be used in so many fun and creative ways! Join us as we discover a way to practice counting, strengthen the muscles of our fingers/hands, improve tactile discrimination, and a neat pincer grasp. Play-Doh also encourages bilateral coordination (using two hands at the same time to complete a task).
