Play-Doh Fork and Knife

Tools

  1. Play-Doh

  2. Plastic Fork

  3. Plastic Knife

Activity Description

Let's practice cutting Play-Doh with a knife and poking with a fork!

Steps

  • Step 1: Gather all tools

  • Step 2: Start by squeezing the Play-Doh in your hands to warm-up those little fingers and hand muscles.

  • Step 3: Roll the Play-Doh into a hotdog or snake figure

  • Step 4: Use a plastic knife to cut the hot dog into little pieces. Make sure the helper hand is holding the Play-Doh as you cut. Keep that index finger on top of the knife for extra stability when cutting.

  • Step 5: Use a plastic fork to poke the little Play-Doh pieces. I like to teach children to hold a fork as if they are holding a pencil.

  • Step 6: Use the plastic knife to help push the Play-Doh pieces from the fork back into its container.

Goals

Children will learn how to grasp a fork and knife and use them to poke and cut Play-Doh.
