Bilateral Coordination

Bilateral coordination refers to the ability to use both sides of the body (left and right) at the same time or with alternating movements. When a child has good bilateral coordination, it is an indicator that both sides of the brain are communicating effectively and sharing information. Children who struggle with this skill often have a difficult time with their daily tasks such as dressing, tying shoes, handwriting, cutting with scissors, engaging in sports, and more. Both sides of the body need to work together efficiently for children to be successful with activities at home, school, and sports.
