Hidden Letters in Snow

Tools

  1. ABC Mini Erasers (or any small letter objects)

  2. Cold Water (about 2 cups)

  3. Snow Powder (Click Here)

  4. Tray

Activity Description

Let's make some snow! Children will enjoy searching for hidden letters in the snow! Close your eyes, and try to find the letters by touch.

Steps

  • Step 1: Gather all tools. Place the letters inside the tray.

  • Step 2: Pour one scoop of the instant snow powder on top of each letter (you can add more or less depending on how much snow you'd like).

  • Step 3: Pour cold water into the tray and watch the snow grow!

  • Step 4: Close your eyes and try to find a letter by touch. Name the letters and the sound it makes! For older children, also name a word that begins with that letter.

  • Step 5: Continue until all letters have been found. Then, let your little ones enjoy playing with the snow!

Goals

Children will practice letter recognition and sounds. When playing with snow, children will enjoy a wonderful sensory experience. When closing the eyes to find a letter, children will work on tactile discrimination.
