Tools
10 Mini Erasers (alternative: coins/beads)
Play-Doh
Activity Description
Children will practice counting and use their hands to squeeze the Play-Doh and place the mini erasers inside. Then they will close their eyes and attempt to find the hidden objects by touch.
Steps
Step 1: Take out Play-Doh from the container and allow your child to manipulate the Play-Doh in their hands to warm up the muscles.
Step 2: Flatten the Play-Doh like a pancake and place the 10 mini erasers inside.
Step 3:Roll the Play-Doh into a ball to hide the mini erasers.
Step 4: Close your eyes and attempt to find the mini erasers by touch and while counting to keep track of how many you find.
Step 5: Count your mini erasers to be sure you have found all 10 of them.
Goals
Play-Doh is a favorite tool for kids and occupational therapy practitioners! Children will strengthen the muscles of their fingers/hands and improve in-hand manipulation. When closing the eyes and attempting to find the hidden erasers by touch, your child relies on their sensory system (tactile/touch).
