  1. Printed PDF (Click Here)

  2. Markers

  3. White Crayon

Activity Description

Boo! Children will discover hidden letters by coloring with a marker. Once children find a letter, they will practice writing that letter with proper letter formation. For my kindergartners, find hidden words and practice writing them!

Steps

  • Step 1: Print out PDF and gather all tools

  • Step 2: In advance, parents will write letters (or words) on the ghost spelling sheet while using a white crayon. Be sure to apply enough pressure and write with precision!

  • Step 3: Children will use a marker and begin to color on the ghost spelling sheet until a letter (or word) is discovered. Name the letter and its sound!

  • Step 4: As a bonus, children can write the letter (or word) on the ghost spelling letter (word) mats. Don't forget to start your letters at the top!

Goals

Ghost spelling is a fun way to work on handwriting! This activity helps with letter recognition, letter formation, sizing, and line orientation. When discovering a letter/word, there is a visual perception component involved. Can you try to guess what letter/word you've found before revealing the entire letter/word?
