Activity Description
Let's learn to trace and draw shapes by catching a shape with a magnetic wand!
Steps
Step 1: Print out PDF and gather all tools
Step 2: In advance, cut pipe cleaners in half and bend the pipe cleaners into shapes of a circle, square, triangle, and diamond (4 each).
Step 3: Place the shapes in a container of water and use your magnetic wand to catch a shape.
Step 4: Practice tracing/drawing the shape and repeat the steps until you have caught all the shapes.
Goals
Children will practice tracing and drawing simple shapes. Eye-hand coordination and a neat pincer grasp is used when catching a shape with the magnetic wand and taken off using the "crocodile fingers" (thumb and index finger). Getting the hands wet is an added bonus for an engaging sensory experience.
