Balloon Toss
Tools
Balloon
Racket (alternative: tape a paper plate to a large craft stick)
Activity Description
Children will use a balloon and racket to tap the balloon and prevent it from touching the ground. Children can partner up with a friend or family member and practice tapping the balloon back and forth. Practice counting by keeping track of how many times you are able to tap the balloon before it touches the ground. Make it more challenging by throwing in an additional balloon and try to prevent both of them from touching the ground! This activity can be done with a partner or individually.
Steps
Step 1: Blow up a balloon (two will make it more challenging).
Step 2: Tap the balloon to a partner and don’t let it touch the ground!
Step 3: Add a second balloon for a fun challenge!
Goals
Children will work on eye-hand coordination, graded control, and visual tracking by tapping the balloon and preventing it from touching the ground. This activity is great for children who struggle with catching a ball because the balloon travels more slowly, allowing time for the child to perform a coordinated movement and visually track the balloon.
