Activity Description
Let's go on an outdoor color scavenger hunt! Children will have to use their eyes to look and find items in the environment that match the colors on their paper.
Steps
Step 1: Print out the PDF
Step 2: Go outside and try to find items that match the colored circles. Place the items inside the circles. An alternative is to draw a picture of the items you've discovered.
Goals
When children are looking around their environment for specific items, they are practicing visual scanning. Visual scanning refers to the ability to use ones vision to search and find items or information in a systematic way. By practicing visual scanning activities, children may become more efficient at finding the information that is necessary for daily tasks. An example of visual scanning is looking for a friend or parent in a crowd, searching for a matching sock in a pile of laundry, or looking for a specific letter in the alphabet.
