Finger Isolation

The ability to move a single finger apart from the rest of the fingers is an important stage in the development of grasp. As children grow, they gain the ability to move fingers individually. This skill is required for dexterity and precision. Activities such as counting with fingers, playing musical instruments, tying shoelaces, developing an efficient pencil grasp, typing on a keyboard, and many others require finger isolation with precision.
