Magnetic Wand
Activity Description
Let's go searching for letters! Children will use a magnetic wand to find all the letters hidden in the backyard. Then, they will match the letter to their letter mat and say the letter's sound.
Steps
Step 1: Print out the PDF. Hide the magnetic letters in the backyard. This can also be played indoors!
Step 2: Children will begin searching for a letter and use a magnetic wand to catch it.
Step 3: Then, they will say the letters name and sound and match it with the letter on the letter mat.
Step 4: Continue until all letters have been found!
Goals
Children will practice letter recognition and sounds. When searching for letters in the backyard, children practice visual scanning skills. By practicing visual scanning activities, children may become more efficient at finding the information that is necessary for daily tasks. An example of visual scanning is looking for a friend or parent in a crowd, searching for a matching sock in a pile of laundry, or looking for letters in the backyard.
