Activity Description

Children will give the ladybug his spots back by painting with a q-tip. Choose how many colors you'd like to use and let's begin!

Steps

  • Step 1: Print out PDF

  • Step 2: Choose colors desired for painting

  • Step 3: Based on the selection of colors, gather some Q-tips. For example, if you choose 6 colors, you will only need 3 Q-tips. We will use both sides of the Q-tip for painting.

  • Step 4: Place one side of the Q-tip in the paint snd begin painting the dots. When finished with one color, try rotating the Q-tip with one hand to use the other side.

  • Step 5: Continue painting until the ladybug has all his spots back!

Goals

Painting with a Q-tip is a great way to work on fine motor skills. When grasping the Q-tip, a child is developing his/her neat pincer grasp. When attempting to rotate the Q-tip from one side to the next while using only one hand, the child is practicing another skill referred to as rotation. This skill is important for the ability to rotate a pencil from the tip to the eraser when handwriting.
