Activity Description

"I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream"! Children will practice counting by building the ice cream. Start by naming the number and placing pom poms on top of the number cone.

Steps

• Step 1: Print out PDF and gather tools

• Step 2: Say the number on the cone and use tongs to pick up the pom poms and place on top of the cone.

  Step 3: Repeat step 2 until all ice cream cones have been filled with pom poms corresponding to the number on the cone.

Goals

Children will practice their counting skills, strengthen the muscles of the fingers/hand, develop hand arches, and improve separation of the hand. Remind your little one to keep their last two fingers tucked inside their palm (they should be "sleeping"). Grasping the tongs properly with the first three fingers helps to promote an efficient grasp on a pencil.
