Racket (alternative: tape a paper plate to a craft stick)
Activity Description
Children will use a balloon and racket to tap the balloon and prevent it from touching the ground. While tossing the balloon from one partner to the next, children will attempt to say the ABCs.
Steps
Step 1: Blow up a balloon
Step 2: Tap the balloon to a partner while using the racket and don’t let it touch the ground!
Step 3: Say the letters of the alphabet in order each time you tap the balloon
Goals
Children will work on eye-hand coordination, graded control, and visual tracking by tapping the balloon and preventing it from touching the ground. This activity is great for children who struggle with catching a ball because the balloon travels more slowly, allowing time for the child to perform a coordinated movement and visually track the balloon.
