Activity Description

Let's practice writing our letters in a magical way! Children will use their fingers to play with salt to reveal beautiful colorful letters.

Steps

  • Step 1: Print out the PDFs and use scissors to cut out the rainbow letter cards. Next, tape the rainbow paper PDF to the bottom of the tray.

  • Step 2: Pour salt on top of the rainbow paper until the tray is covered lightly with salt and appears white or pink depending on the type of salt used.

  • Step 3: Choose a letter card (we used letters E, F, H, I, L and T for the video) and use your index finger to write the letter in the salt. Don't forget to start your letters at the top!

  • Step 4: Give the tray a light shake to make the rainbow letter disappear. Try another letter!

Goals

OT practitioners love to use a multi-sensory approach when teaching letter formation - and kids do too! When combining multi-sensory approaches to learning, children are more likely to retain the information learned. In this activity, your child will learn to write letters from a top-to-bottom, left-to-right approach.
