Neat Pincer Grasp

A neat pincer grasp uses the tips of the thumb and pointer finger to stabilize an object. A neat pincer grasp develops around 12-18 months. This kind of grasp is used to pick up small objects such as beads, peeling stickers, buttoning a shirt, and many more. Try making an “OK” hand gesture using your thumb and pointer finger. The tips of the thumb and pointer finger should be touching. A child that struggles with a neat pincer grasp will have difficulty with holding a pencil, dressing (buttoning, zipping, snaps), using feeding utensils efficiently, and more.
